Maizie's Cafe

www.maiziescafe.com

YUM!! Charming new place in Central Phoenix, absolutely DELICIOUS food, with HUGE portions! They have some unique items that you won't find anywhere else. Their Wingless Buffalo Dip is the perfect combination of cream and spice. I always order Spinach Dip when it is on the menu, but the waitress recommended this, and I am glad that I went with something I couldn't get elsewhere! The Basil Pesto Bruschetta is just heavenly!

I was NOT a fan of the Krazy Kobb Salad, but so far that is the only thing I have not liked. And, it was only because of the dressing, I believe it was homemade and it had red pepper in it, and I don't like any kind of bell pepper. Otherwise, their tuna and chicken salad are amazing. They have REALLY delicious fries that you can't keep your hands off of. I swear I am going to try one of their inside out burgers next time I go! You MUST try the Bueno Breakfast Burrito. The woman who ordered it said it was the best thing she has ever eaten, and it looked AMAZING!

As for alcohol, I have had a glass of the Kung Fu Girl Riesling, which was ordered SOLELY because of the name, and it was quite delightful. I also ordered a Sunset on Central for lunch one time, and it was almost as though I was transported to a cruise ship.

Both times we have gone, we ordered the Chocolate Cake, which is amazing, but next time I am ordering the Strawberry Tall Cake, it looks delightful when it goes by the table, and I can't get it out of my head! YUM!

Pizzeria Bianco

www.pizzeriabianco.com

TOTAL and COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT, and this is mainly due to the fact that Cibo (reviewed previously) was really hard to live up to. AND with Pizzeria Bianco being known as the best in the country, BLAH BLAH BLAH, I was expecting to be blown out of the water!

First of all, the incredibly RUDE hostess, needs to realize that she WORKS at Pizzeria Bianco, she doesn't own it, doesn't make the pizza, all she does is stand in the doorway and tell people that they must wait hours on end for mediocre, SOGGY pizza! We started with the tomato, basil and mozzarella salad, an antipasto and spiedini The tomato, basil and mozzarella was really good, the antipasto was a big plate of mushy cooked vegetables, and the spiedini was just ok.

As for the pizza, we tried one of each of the pizzas, and I would have to say my favorite was the Biancoverde! I realize more and more that I love the taste, texture and spice behind arugula, and it was SUCH A GREAT pizza topping. The Rosa with the red onion and pistachios had a unique flavor, and these are the two pizzas I feel I may return for, but definitely NOT when I have to wait for two hours. The Margherita pizza was SOGGY, the kind where you just have to fold it in half several times and shove it in your mouth, but that is not what I expected when I walked in the door.

NO DESSERT because they don't offer dessert! I was just really disappointed! Save your time and money and head to Cibo, they are on vacation right now, but they open again on the 23rd, so give them a call and make a reservation ASAP!

Matt's Big Breakfast

www.mattsbigbreakfast.com
801 N. 1st Street
Phoenix, AZ

If you are an avid reader of my other blog, Crazy Little Psychos, then you knew this one was coming! I was a doubter! I thought there was no way that this place could be anything special when it came to serving breakfast. However, it was better than anyone had ever stated it would be! The location itself is the cutest little place, notice LITTLE! They were not really set up to accommodate our party of eight, but we split up, and enjoyed our SUPER breakfast.

The best part of the particular day we went was that the special was EGGS BENEDICT, and those are my absolute FAVORITE!!!!! The eggs were cooked perfectly, and I swear they used honey baked ham instead of Canadian bacon, which was such a pleasant surprise!!!! These were served with the hash browns which were like an enormous potato pancake that I absolutely LOVE, so I was very happy with this. I wish I had tried home fries, but I guess it will leave something for me to try next time.

My kids had the pancakes which were light and fluffy, the syrup was the perfect combination of sweet and sticky! My husband couldn't get enough of the waffle. The rest of the people we were with got some combination of the omelet. My sister's 14 year old step-son was overheard stating that he wanted to go back just 24 hours later!

I really appreciate the owner's wife (which makes her the owner too in my opinion, but whatever) taking the time to talk to all of us. I asked her if she made the bread, and they don't, BUT they do their best to use local business and only go outside the city if necessary. She said that if you are a local business they will give you a chance!

I can't wait to go back and try something off their lunch menu!
